Audience: Years 1-2
Habitats is an engaging 30-minute science show that connects students’ classroom learning with the world around them. Led by an enabler, the show features interactive demonstrations and opportunities for student volunteers to help bring key ideas to life.
Aims and Outcomes
By the end of the show, students will:
• Deepen their understanding of habitats, the natural environment, and the climate.
• Be inspired to take responsibility for their personal actions to help preserve local habitats.
• Discover possible solutions to climate change, alongside its causes and impacts.
• Be encouraged to develop their own opinions about habitats and climate, supporting their ability to empathise with global and local issues.
• Feel motivated to explore the idea of ‘green careers’ and how people work to protect the planet.

Science – Animals, Including Humans
• Identify and name a variety of common animals.
• Describe and compare the structure of different animals.
Science – Living Things and Their Habitats
• Explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and never lived.
• Identify a variety of plants and animals in different habitats.
• Describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of the animals and plants that live there.
• Understand simple food chains.
Working Scientifically
• Asking simple questions and talking about what they observe.
• Using observations to suggest answers and ideas.
• Participating in guided investigations.
